[She glanced down at her hand in his. Allowing herself a moment to revel in the gentleness of the gesture, and the warmth to his skin, before she risked intertwining their fingers together.]
[Her hands were so warm and soft, even with everything she's been through. So gentle. The intertwining of their fingers only fastens that hold, and so Phoenix squeezes her fingers gently.]
[The silence that followed was...comfortable. Even though she knew she was blushing and it was difficult to maintain eye contact for too long at a time because of that. She allowed herself to revel in a moment that, less than six months ago, she never thought would have been possible.]
[Perhaps it was that thought that led a small giggle to escape her. Perhaps it was a cover for the embarrassment over what she could only assume her face looked like. Perhaps she just needed an excuse to laugh. Whatever the reason, her head tilted downward as the silliest of thoughts occured to her.]
This is...probably the first time we've...been able to enjoy our time together like this without being interrupted.
[By either the city itself, or some of its more enthusiastic residence.]
[He didn't mind that she was blushing. It was cute... and it almost made it feel like the times they shared all those years ago. Phoenix himself was almost oblivious of the way his own cheeks were flushing as he faced her.
And he sent a warm chuckle to keep her giggle company. Then he paused for a beat after she spoke - as if expecting something to interrupt them and jinx her statement.
But it seems like they're safe. And he keeps his hold on her hands as he speaks to her.]
You know, I think you're right. This might just be our lucky day, Iris. It's... it's just you and me. [Without being fully aware, he's been continually making little nudges forward along the blanket. He's pretty much forgotten about the food for now... It's all about Iris.]
Er... Yeah! It's like... when you bring up something you don't want to happen, and it's only after you mention it that it does happen? So it's kind of like... a weird curse effect!

Do you think we should check the bushes, just in case?
[For any little spies.]

I don't know, Iris... We don't want to jinx this! [Whatever 'this' may be.]

I...see.
You're right, though. I adore the girls very much, but...for once, I don't think I would look quite so forward to seeing them around.

Exactly.
Right now, with just the two of us, I... I think we've got something nice going on.
